Chrome Book Launch

On Friday, students in Ngati Awhina finally got their Chrome Books. It was like Christmas morning! Everyone, was so excited and couldn't wait to rip into their boxes and get their Chrome Books out. Students showed their whanau how to log on, and shared some of the learning they have been doing using Google apps.

The Ups and Downs of Gardening!

Last Thursday we held a Family Fun afternoon at school. We invited all whanau to come and check out what we are learning this year. Room 3, were excited to share what we have been doing in the school garden, and invited whanau and the wider community to help us plant some new seedlings in our winter garden.

Sadly, over the weekend, someone stole our plants!! We know that this was not an act of vandalism as they removed the plants with care, and left us with very tidy, but empty garden beds! As you can imagine the students were devastated to see all their hard work vanish!

We have decided, that we will not let this distract us from our learning goal and vision and have already started to replant.  Thank you, to Alicia from Porirua Garden's Project and Diana who are continuing to support us by donating new plants and giving up their time to help us achieve our goal.

Relating Well to Learn Well

We are learning that we need to use ALL of our key competency skills to help us think, create and act collaboratively while learning on our Notebooks.

This means:

  • using our THINKING SKILLS to use what we already  know to solve problems when we are using different devices and new programmes or apps.
  • RELATING WELL TO OTHERS by showing manaakitangi when we are sharing devices and working on collaborative projects with our learning Buddy or Group.
  • USING SYMBOLS, LANGUAGE AND TEXT to read the information and instructions on the screen, and choose the appropriate tool or commands.
  • Using a variety of SELF MANAGEMENT skills so we  are able to take responsibility for our learning, manage our time and resources effectively, and complete ALL work to the best of our ability
  • PARTICIPATING fully in all activities, and CONTRIBUTING our ideas to share and learn with others.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Over the last couple of weeks Room 3 students and our friends from other classes have been learning new skills on Adobe Photoshop and In Design. We have been working with Rob who is a Graphic Designer. He is helping us to create visually attractive and informative signs for our garden, compost and worm farms.  We need to use our knowledge of other design programmes like Publisher to help has get use to tools and features in Photoshop. Rob, and our teacher Ardelle are pretty amazed at how fast we are learning!!

Corinna School Gardens

Room 3's inquiry this year is all about Whanaungatanga. Our BIG idea is "How can we make connections and build relationships with our community to improve our school environment?" We decided to focus on improving our school garden.

The Purpose of Our Garden is to….
  • Grow healthy food for everyone to eat and enjoy.
  • Share our garden with our whanau and community.
  • Build relationships with whanau and our wider community.
  • Learn about gardening so we can grow gardens at home.
  • Have fun learning outside of the classroom.
  • Make our school beautiful and environmentally friendly.
  • Get creative with recycling and upcycling items to use in our garden.

Going Goggle!

Room 3, 4 and 6 are going Google! This year all students have the opportunity to buy their own Chrome Books. These will be used to support learning at school and home. Students will be encouraged to work collaboratively to think, create and share their learning with others. We are all working very hard to learn all the new and exciting Google apps that we will use.
